Filing a Roof Insurance Claim in Texas: What to Expect
June 30, 2026MCMaster Roofing & Construction

Filing a roof insurance claim sounds intimidating, but in Texas it's a well-worn path — especially after a hail event. The good news: when you have a real claim and an honest contractor in your corner, the process is straightforward, and your out-of-pocket usually ends at your deductible. Here's how it actually plays out.
Step 1 — Document the damage
Before you call anyone, take photos of anything you can safely see from the ground: dented gutters, downspouts, the AC unit, hail in the yard. Save the date of the storm. If you're not comfortable on a ladder, that's fine — we'll handle the roof inspection.
Step 2 — Get a free inspection
This is where we come in. We'll get on the roof, document hail bruises, lifted shingles, and any wind damage, and tell you straight whether you have a claim worth filing. If you don't, we'll say so.
Step 3 — File with your carrier
You file the claim with your insurance company — we'll walk you through what to say. They'll assign an adjuster and schedule a visit, usually within a week or two.
Step 4 — Meet the adjuster on-site
This is the most important step, and we're there with you. We meet the adjuster on the roof so the damage gets documented properly. Without a contractor present, important items can get missed or undervalued.
Step 5 — Schedule the work and recover depreciation
Once the claim is approved, we schedule the replacement or repair. Your insurance typically issues an initial check (the actual cash value), and after the work is complete we send the carrier a final invoice so you can recover the held-back depreciation. You pay your deductible. That's usually it.
The whole point of MCMaster being on the job is that you have someone who knows the process and is on your side, not the insurance company's.
